last night I...
taking latest elongated jump down North Street
i barely miss kicking someone walking next to Giles in the head
and, hovering for a second,
end up perched on the rock-like grey bun of hair
atop a chinese pensioner.
shelf consciously she walks into some new clothing shop
replacing the newsagent i bought the ancestral trail from
i thought my infamous next door neighbour had a glass eye
but they're both real.
which is more logical, as if you had a prosthetic, they could both be the same shade.
i scrabbled for a similar appendage in a muddy tunnel underground
upriver indistinct hairy or oily shapes ooze through the water towards me...
no shadows.
an old rope hangs from the hole i fell into this mess in the first place through
and a dull glint reflects from a pair of glasses
as eyes more accustomed to dim light
peer short-sightedly into the gloom
they fall from his face to be caught by a piece of string
and dangle down the pit flashing sunlight round the burrow
like a shaky handed housebreaker with a torch
invading the cool darkness
this habitat of woodlice
scurrying under log's shade
lift up a rock
and you may find
me also.
jumping at the sight of an empty suit suspended in air
then spotting the clothesline.
i shake my ragdoll head.
you pull your black beanie down in case of photographs and laugh
one hand over mouth.
